Jewelry Changing Procedure w/o Clean Field

  1. Seat client.
  2. Wash/sanitize hands.
  3. Give client jewelry bag to hold open, instructing them to “Please hold that open for me”
  4. Put on one glove.
  5. Opening drawer with ungloved hand, grab any necessary tools with gloved hand.
  6. Holding bottles/operating pumps with ungloved hand, squirt any necessary lubricants/skin preps onto back of gloved hand.  (Use skin prep is StatIM was not used)
  7. Open StatIM cassette with ungloved hand (if StatIM was used)
  8. Drop jewelry from steel cup onto gloved hand/pick up jewelry from StatIM cassette,  hold in between pinkie and palm in gloved hand.
  9. Put on second glove.
  10. Open any tools that were pulled in step 6, and throw away packages in work station trash can. (If StatIM was not used, the jewelry can be cleaned at this time)
  11. Using lubricant from back of glove if necessary, remove client’s jewelry, deposit jewelry in jewelry bag you asked them to hold without touching the bag.
  12. Assess/massage piercing.
  13. Explain/show client how new jewelry works.
  14. Insert new jewelry into client’s piercing using lubricant from back of glove if necessary.
  15. Have client take a look at the jewelry, and make sure everything looks good. If they have any adjustments that need to be made, make them.
  16. Deposit tools in bio bin.
  17. Remove gloves and deposit in bio trash.
  18. Sanitize hands.
  19. Walk client out.
  20. Smile.
